India’s young pacer Harshit has opened up about the struggles he faced in the initial phase of his career. He also shared how years of rejection and failure shaped him into the player he is today.
Speaking on the Men’s Locker Room podcast, Harshit shared how he used to cry in front of his father after failures. He said, “I know how to handle failure now. I have seen those 10 years where I would not get selected. I would go to trials, and my name would not come. I would come back and cry every day in front of my father.”
Harshit also explained that, with time, his mindset changed. “Now, I feel that failure has gone. Whatever comes, I can handle it. I had given up.” He recalled how his father never stopped believing in him and said, “I had given up. But my dad literally kept pushing me.”
Harshit has also been named in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 at home. He was also part of the Champions Trophy 2025-winning squad.
Harshit has taken 23 wickets in 13 ODI matches and was also India’s highest ODI wicket-taker in 2025. Along with his bowling, he also contributed valuable runs as a tailender. In the first ODI against New Zealand on January 11, he added a crucial 29 runs, which helped India win by four wickets. In the ongoing series decider against New Zealand in Indore, he picked up three crucial wickets and added important runs at the end.
