Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Lizelle Lee has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the Code of Conduct during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) match against Mumbai Indians at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday, January 20.
Lee was fined after expressing her displeasure at being stumped for 46. In the 11th over of the innings, she was adjudged out of her crease, with MI wicketkeeper Rahila Firdous whipping the bails off to dismiss the DC batter four runs short of what would have been her third half-century of the season. The TV umpire took a long time to arrive at the decision. Replays showed that Lee’s bat was momentarily in the air, allowing Firdous to remove the bails. Once the decision was displayed on the big screen, a frustrated Lee walked off and continued to remonstrate.
According to a WPL media advisory, Lee admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment during a match.
“Lee admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment during the match. For Level 1 breaches, the match referee’s decision is final and binding,” the WPL release stated.
Although Lee missed out on a well-deserved fifty, her contribution was instrumental in the team’s win. DC captain Jemimah Rodrigues returned to form in a crucial game with an unbeaten 51 off 37 balls.
With the win, DC remain in contention for a play-off berth, with four teams now locked on four points. The Smriti Mandhana-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru continue to top the table.
