Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder, Nadine de Klerk is positive and confident that her team can bounce back after their first defeat of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. RCB lost by seven wickets against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Vadodara on January 24.
In a media release, de Klerk reflected on the game and said, “It was a pretty disappointing day out, but we know we are much better than that. You are going to have a bad day or two, rather take it now than in the knockout games. We know we are a much better side, and we will be back stronger for our next game.”
So far, de Klerk is the highest wicket-taker for RCB this season, having picked up 10 wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 7.05. She is also the third-highest wicket-taker of the tournament.
De Klerk also pointed out how conditions in Vadodara were different from earlier venues. She explained, “I think we saw in the last couple of games, its hard work in the first innings unlike DY Patil. Its a bit more low-scoring and you have towork hard for your runs and apply yourself. We’ll take the learnings into the next game.”
RCB managed to score only 109 runs in their 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana was the highest run-scorer with 38 runs, while Radha Yadav (18) also tried but could not make much of a difference.
Head coach Malolan Rangarajan also admitted that the team fell short on the day. He said, “We should acknowledge that we were beaten today. We did not turn up. Having said that up there were very good signs tonight, the way Smriti and Grace started tonight, it showed a lot of applications. As far as our preparations, let’s commit to it. There’s always going to challenges but let’s trust our process and our strengths. We are back here in less that 48 hours, so we can make it right.”
RCB will next face Mumbai Indians on January 26 in Vadodara.
