Delhi Capitals head coach Jonathan Batty has asked his players to stay calm, trust their skills, and adapt smartly to the pitch conditions in Vadodara as the team heads into a must-win Women’s Premier League 2026 (WPL 2026) clash against UP Warriorz on February 1.
In a media release while talking about the challenge of playing in Vadodara, Batty said, “The conditions are significantly different from those at the D.Y. Patil Stadium. We’ve had to rethink our strategy as individual players.”
He also explained that both bowlers and batters need to be precise. “From a bowling perspective, it’s about identifying the best lines and lengths; as batters, it’s about focusing on key scoring areas against different types of bowlers. There’sbeen a lot of thought that’s gone into that.”
Batty also pointed out how the team learned about the pitch conditions. “We’ve watched our previous games and studied the opposition closely. We’ve learned a lot about the pitch conditions here and how they differ,” he said.
Ahead of the do-or-die match, Batty gave a strong message and said, “My key message is to keep focusing on what we do when we play our best cricket. We have super-talented players, and when they execute their skills, that’s good enough against most teams. Of course, we look at areas where we can target the opposition, but for me, it’s about making sure we do our job with the bat and the ball.”
A win in this game will ensure that DC qualifying for the eliminator and they face Gujarat Giants on February 3 in Vadodara. But if they loss, then Mumbai Indians (MI), DC, and UPW – all of them will end up with six points each and the Net Run Rate (NRR) will be the decisive factor.
