
Ireland Women have secured their place in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup after a strong performance against Thailand during the qualifying tournament in Nepal on February 1. With this win, Ireland became the third team from the qualifiers to reach the main event. They will be joining Bangladesh and the Netherlands in the global event.
Now only one team, either Scotland or the USA, will complete the 12-team line-up for the tournament, which is scheduled to be played in England and Wales in June and July.
In that match, Ireland batted first and posted a decent total of 121 for eight wickets. Captain Gaby Lewis (25) and Amy Hunter (24) gave a good start to the team. Orla Prendergast also added crucial 24 runs. Louise Little (14) and Jane Maguire (15) chipped in with important contributions.
For Thailand, Suleeporn Laomi was the standout bowler as she picked up four wickets and conceded only 24 runs in four overs. Sunida Chaturongrattana also picked up two wickets, while Onnicha Kamchomphu managed to take one.
In reply, Thailand struggled as four players managed ducks. Captain Naruemol Chaiwai was the top scorer with 22 runs. Nannapat Koncharoenkai (15) also tried to add some runs but couldn’t make much impact. Thailand were bowled out for just 59 runs in 16.1 overs.
Arlene Kelly was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland as she claimed four crucial wickets while conceding only seven runs in four overs. Lara McBride picked up three wickets, while Aimee Maguire took two. Orla Prendergast also chipped in with one wicket, helping Ireland secure a comfortable 62-run victory.
