Prithvi Shaw didn’t perform as per expectations – Ponting opens up on the opener’s continued absence

Ricky Ponting, the current head coach of Delhi Capitals (DC), recently shed some light on the reasons behind the omission of Prithvi Shaw from the team. According to the former Australian skipper, the young opener has failed to live up to the high expectations of the team management, which has ultimately led to his removal from the playing XI.

“Prithvi… the fact that he is not playing is an indication that he did not perform as we wanted him to. No one has really grabbed the opportunity with both hands yet,” Ponting said in the post-match press conference.

It’s been quite a while since Shaw has played a game for the Capitals, with his last appearance dating back to April 20. Throughout the IPL 2023 season, Shaw’s performances have been far from convincing, as he has managed to score a meagre 47 runs in six games, a dismal record, that was not up to the mark for the Delhi-based franchise.
