James Anderson, the prominent England fast bowler, has sustained a minor injury during Lancashire’s ongoing County Championship match against Somerset ahead of the Ashes 2023.

Despite a strong performance on the first day, taking two wickets for 16 runs from 14 overs, Anderson left the field before the end of play due to an undisclosed complaint.

Lancashire has not yet disclosed any further details about the injury, and Anderson’s absence from the field raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming Ashes series. Anderson is the leading wicket-taker for England in Test cricket and one of their most experienced bowlers.

A spokesperson of Lancashire said: “Jimmy is off the field with a minor issue, which is currently being assessed.”

Lancashire’s physio is assessing James Anderson’s “minor issue” at Old Trafford. Anderson, who has taken 16 wickets in his four county matches this summer at an average of 20.3, left the field with the issue during the Somerset match.

This potential injury could add complexity to England’s upcoming summer, starting with the match against Ireland at Lord’s on June 1, followed by the Ashes 15 days later.
