This year, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction has been a standout occasion for some young and uncapped players. None had it better than Kashvee Gautam.

Just when it seemed no uncapped player would surpass UP Warriorz’s Rs 1.30 crore bid for Vrinda Dinesh, along came Kashvee. The tall right-arm medium pacer stole the spotlight. Gujarat Giants secured her for a staggering INR 2 crore, a game-changing amount that, just a few years ago, seemed like an unattainable dream for a female cricketer.

A day before the auction, I had picked three Indian uncapped players who could invite really high bids at the auction. Out of the three, Vrinda and Kashvee hit the jackpot.

Who is Kashvee Gautam

In 2020, this seam bowler came to the limelight with a remarkable feat. She returned a stunning 10-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, in a one-day match for Chandigarh against Arunachal Pradesh. Despite going unsold in the auction for the inaugural season of WPL, Kashvee’s unwavering dedication and consistent performances ensured that she remained a talked-about player in the domestic circuit.

What sets Kashvee apart

It is not just her hunger for success, but also the gradual increase in pace and consistency in domestic cricket. During the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, she showcased her prowess with the ball by claiming 12 wickets in seven games. This success earned her a well-deserved spot in the under-23 squad for the ACC Emerging tournament, further solidifying her status as a rising star in the cricketing landscape.

What was the turning point

Kashvee’s journey extends beyond domestic competitions. Her recent stellar performance for India A against England A, where she secured three crucial wickets, showcased her ability to deliver on the international stage. She may have felt disappointed in the auction last time, but her resilience and willingness to fight it out paid dividends. This promises an exciting future because the Indian women’s team is looking to expand its pool of quicker bowlers.
