India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Singh recently opened up about his recovery after undergoing a sports hernia surgery in June. The middle-order batter is set to lead India in the Asia Cup beginning in the UAE on September 9.
In a video shared by BCCI, Suryakumar said, “I’m feeling good right now. It’s been five to six weeks. Good process, good routines for the last six weeks, and fingers crossed, feeling really well.”
This was his third surgery in the last three years. Earlier, he had an ankle surgery in 2023 and the same sports hernia surgery in 2024.
His injury was diagnosed during the later stages of IPL 2025. Sharing his experience, he said, “It actually got diagnosed close to the end of IPL. I felt it because I had a similar kind of injury last year as well. And that’s how I got to know.”
It was time to take quick decisions. “A few checklists were there. I tried those things and then I realised it’s time to go and do a small MRI. When I did it, it was very clear.
“Post IPL, I went to Germany. It went really well. I knew the recovery was going to be step by step. So I was prepared for everything. We took it one week at a time and we are here, and I’m feeling good.”
Suryakumar also praised the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. “Firstly, it’s very massive, the place is huge… unbelievable facility and it’s the best that I’ve seen for a really long time,” he said.
