Pakistan secured a resounding victory over Sri Lanka in the second Test, triumphing by an innings and 222 runs. Abdullah Shafique’s magnificent double century in the first innings and Noman Ali’s sensational seven-wicket haul were the key highlights of the match.

With this win, Pakistan became the most successful visiting team on Sri Lankan soil, surpassing both Australia and England, who had previously achieved four series wins each. The clean sweep victory was Pakistan’s first in Sri Lanka since 1994, adding to their achievements on this tour.

In the first innings, Sri Lanka could only manage a modest 166, with Vice-captain Dhananjaya de Silva top-scoring with a fighting half-century. Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed was impressive, claiming four wickets, leading the Pakistani bowlers. Pakistan responded with an imposing total of 576/5 declared, as Abdullah (201) and Agha Salman (132) showcased their abilities. Asitha Fernando stood out for Sri Lanka, claiming three wickets.

Facing a daunting task to reduce the deficit, Sri Lanka faltered once again, getting bowled out for 188 on Day 4. Noman spearheaded Pakistan’s bowling attack in the second innings, while Naseem Shah chipped in with 3/44.

The comprehensive 2-0 series victory also marked an auspicious start to Pakistan’s World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 campaign, where they currently lead the standings with a flawless winning record.
