Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are set to name Abhishek Nayar as their head coach for the IPL 2026 season.

According to a report on The Indian Express, Nayar has already been informed about the decision by the franchise and an official announcement is expected soon. Incidentally, in July 2025, he was named the head coach of UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

The former India all-rounder had joined the KKR set-up in 2018 as the coach of their Academy in Mumbai. With him at the helm of affairs, he coached and built a good rapport with players like Rinku Singh and Varun Chakaravarthy.

Nayar then was named the batting coach of KKR. He was a part of the coaching staff that helped KKR win the IPL 2024. Soon, Nayar was appointed as one of the assistant coaches of the Indian team. However, after India slipped to a 1-3 defeat in Australia, he was sacked.

Earlier, in July 2025, Chandrakant Pandit had parted ways  with KKR as the head coach after the franchise ended up at the eighth spot on the points table.
