India’s flamboyant opener Abhishek Sharma has made history by achieving the highest-ever rating points (931) for a batter in the men’s ICC T20I rankings, surpassing the five-year-old record held by England’s Dawid Malan.

Malan had previously held the record, having reached 919 points in December 2020. Abhishek attained 931 points after India’s match against Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025, where he scored 61 off 31 balls at a strike rate of 196.77.

However, his rating dropped to 926 following a poor performance in the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, where he scored just five runs off six balls. Abhishek had a dream run in the tournament, scoring 314 runs in seven matches at an average of 44.85 and a blistering strike rate of 200.00, including three fifties. The southpaw finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer.

England’s destructive opener Phil Salt occupies second place with 844 rating points.

India’s hero in the final, Tilak Varma, who played a match-winning innings of an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls at a strike rate of 130.19 to guide India to victory, is in third place in the rankings with 819 rating points.

Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka, who hit a brilliant century against India, is ranked fifth with 779 rating points. India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, who scored just 72 runs in seven innings, has slipped two places and is currently in eighth position with 698 rating points.
