Former India opener Virender Sehwag has praised Abhishek Sharma for his attacking style of batting. Speaking on Sony Sports, Sehwag especially mentioned Abhishek’s hitting abilities when the ball is new.

“You rarely get to see such a talent, the strike rate at which he bats. He has a strike rate of 193, and he batted at a strike rate above 200 today. You get very few players who play with a strike rate of 200 against the new ball. We have seen that with the old ball because everyone has to hit later.”

Abhishek started his innings against Pakistan with a four and a six in the first two balls that he faced, making his intentions clear. In the third over, he hit another four and a six. The first two balls of the next over were again sent to the boundary by him, but just when he was looking set for a big score he was dismissed by Saim Ayub. He scored 31 off just 13 balls, which included four boundaries and two sixes, at a strike rate of 238.46.

Sehwag, who was himself known for his destructive batting, lauded Abhishek for dismantling the bowlers’ plans.

“It’s slightly difficult to hit fast bowlers for fours and sixes at will with the new ball. However, Abhishek does that exceptionally. When he comes to the ground, the bowlers have a fear as to where they should bowl to him. I get delighted watching him bat.”
