Ravi Shastri, the former India head coach, has observed that Hardik Pandya should be appointed as the captain of the white-ball national team after the conclusion of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023.

Hardik has impressed since taking over the captaincy role of the Indian T20I side and also in the IPL, where he has achieved remarkable success with the Gujarat Titans (GT). In his two years as captain, the team won the IPL title in 2022 and reached the final this year, albeit losing to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Although Pandya has not played Test cricket since recovering from a back injury, he has made a significant impact with both bat and ball in limited-overs cricket for India. Many have identified him as a potential heir to Rohit Sharma’s role in white-ball cricket.

“After the World Cup, if his body is fit enough, he should take over captaincy in white-ball cricket. His body cannot cope with Test cricket. Let’s be very clear about that,” said Ravi Shastri while talking to The Week.
