Ahead of the Lord’s Test, the 18-year-old leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has been included in the England squad as a cover for Moeen Ali. This decision comes after Moeen sustained a finger injury during his comeback Test match, which was the first match of the Ashes series.

In the Edgbaston Test, Moeen sustained a blister on his right index finger while bowling. While the injury is reportedly healing satisfactorily, there is concern that the blister may reopen, causing discomfort and affecting Moeen’s bowling technique. Rehan’s addition to the team strengthens England’s spin bowling options and provides additional depth in that department.
