Indian football is at a standstill. The craze for the Derby notwithstanding, things aren’t good with the sport. National team players are forced to tweet national camp photos to try and emphasise that not all is lost. We need a speedy resolution of the crisis so that the ISL can happen. There was a glimmer of hope with the AIFF planning to mention the matter before the Supreme Court at 1030am this morning. In fact, emails were sent to the effect and the Amicus informed as well. Thereafter something happened and the plan was scuttled.
“I’d really like to know what happened that the AIFF decided against mentioning the matter. Why the volte face? What happened between 145pm and evening on Sunday. Don’t think even the Amicus knows the reason?”, said a lawyer who has been following developments.
Thousands of livelihoods, may I point out, is at stake. Thousands, not hundreds. We need proactive effort in trying to solve the impasse. And unless there is a legal resolution things will not move. A resolution can only happen if there is urgency shown on the part of the petitioner.
The Amicus, it can be confirmed, is going to mention the matter before the SC this morning at 1030am. What happens thereafter is obviously dependant on the court. All we can say is from the standpoint of Indian football and more importantly for the players and fans, we need the case to be heard and the judgment to come. Either way the judgment has to come for things to move.
As we wait for the case to be mentioned, one wonders if the AIFF will clarify why they decided against mentioning the matter when they had originally planned to do so and had even communicated things via email? What changed and why? Does the call help Indian football?
