One final meeting between the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) is to happen tomorrow at 4.30 pm and sources say it is expected to go on long. It is the meeting that will decide the final blue print of the solution to be presented by the AIFF-FSDL combine before the Supreme Court on 28 August at 1 pm.
Four definite things are being looked at. The first is transparency. How the deal will be structured going ahead and what are the various aspects of the agreement. This is to ensure no one points fingers and alleges foul play.
Second is continuity of football. Both sides are keen that the season happens. There are three FIFA windows — September, October and November. They are trying to work around them and come up with a plan. But as I said, the intent is to make sure that the season happens. Anyone who says dates have been discussed is kite flying.
Third is to ensure continuity for ISL clubs. The long term solution has been one of the main things that FSDL has been harping on and now AIFF too is on the same page. The solution presented will keep in mind the long term interests of the clubs and protect their interests.
Finally, whatever is presented will be FIFA, AFC and Sports Act compliant. “They are studying all aspects of the act and whatever is presented will also be FIFA statutes compliant so that the AIFF doesn’t run into rough weather”.
With 48 hours to go before the case is heard again, all eyes are now on the meeting tomorrow evening. The future of Indian football could well be decided in it.
