India batter Ajinkya Rahane remains hopeful of returning to Test cricket and revealed that he is gearing up for the upcoming domestic season, where he will represent Mumbai.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Rahane was nearly referred to as a “former India batter” by Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain. Atherton then asked him about his current plans and the present status of his cricketing career.

Rahane responded by expressing his continued passion for the longest format and his determination to stage a comeback through strong domestic performances.

“First of all, it’s good to be here. I still want to play Test cricket and I’m really passionate about it,” Rahane told Sky Sports. “At the moment, I’m enjoying my cricket. I’m just here for a few days.”

He added that he had brought his training gear to England to maintain fitness, and his preparations for the domestic season are already underway.

“I carried my training clothes so that I can keep myself fit. Our domestic season is starting soon, so preparations have just begun.”

Rahane last played a Test for India on 20 July 2023 against the West Indies. In the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy season, he scored 467 runs from nine matches at an average of 35.92, including one century and one half-century, with a highest score of 108.

Rahane is a veteran and has played 85 Test matches under his belt. In 144 innings, he has amassed 5077 runs at an average of 38.46, including 12 centuries and 26 fifties.
