Al-Hilal began their FIFA Club World Cup 2025 campaign with an impressive 1-1 draw against Spanish giants Real Madrid. But ahead of the game, Al-Hilal CEO Esteve Calzada addressed the rumours surrounding a possible transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo from Al-Nassr to Al-Hilal during the additional transfer window introduced by FIFA before the Club World Cup.

While discussing the topic, Calzada even referred to his club as the “Real Madrid of Saudi Arabia,” drawing a comparison between Al-Nassr and Atletico Madrid.

While speaking to Diario AS, Calzada said: “And who haven’t they linked us with? Cristiano, too, of course. Well, we’re a bit like Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia, we’re the club that everyone leaks stories about because they might be interested in something … Sometimes it’s true, but a lot of it isn’t. It reminds me of the early days of Manchester City … when it seemed like every player had an offer from City.”

Cristiano Ronaldo transfer would be unusual – Al-Hilal CEO

“We’ve adopted a policy of not commenting on rumours. At the end of the day, Al Nassr [Cristiano’s former team] is like Atlético and Al Hilal is like Madrid. It would be a very unusual situation to strengthen your team with a player from your eternal rival,” he concluded.

Ronaldo recently won the UEFA Nations League with Portugal after defeating Spain in the final. However, he is most likely to continue at Al-Nassr, as he hinted during post-match interviews following the Nations League triumph, despite all the rumours circulating during the additional transfer window.

His contract with Al-Nassr is set to expire on 30 June 2025.
