Carlo Ancelotti has officially been named the new manager of the Brazil national football team. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed that the current Real Madrid boss, who is widely regarded as one of the most decorated managers in European football, will begin his new role on 26 May.
The news comes after months of speculation, with many expecting the 65-year-old to part ways with Real Madrid once the current La Liga season wraps up. His upcoming appointment will mark a historic moment for Brazilian football, as Ancelotti becomes the first non-Brazilian to take charge of the men’s national team.
He is set to oversee Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches in June, which will be against Ecuador and Paraguay.
As reported by The Guardian, the CBF said Ancelotti is “a legend of the game as the most successful manager in football history”. The CBF also stated: “This landmark moment sees the coming together of two icons – the only five-time Fifa World Cup champions and a coach with an unmatched record across Europe’s elite competitions.

Carlo Ancelotti has lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy five times
“The CBF extends its sincere gratitude to Real Madrid and [president] Mr Pérez for the cordiality and sportsmanship shown in facilitating the coach’s release during his contract term, allowing this new chapter to begin with mutual respect and cooperation between the teams.
“The confederation would also like to extend its thanks to Diego Fernandes, who facilitated and led negotiations with Mr Ancelotti and Real Madrid on behalf of the CBF in Europe. The CBF warmly welcomes Mr Ancelotti and looks forward to a new era of success under his leadership.”
Ancelotti brings with him a remarkable track record, having lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy five times – three times with Real Madrid over two different periods and twice with AC Milan. His domestic success spans several countries, with league titles won at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and the two aforementioned clubs.
With Ancelotti’s departure confirmed, attention now turns to his successor at the Bernabéu. Xabi Alonso, who has announced he will leave Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season, is believed to be one of the top contenders for the Real Madrid job.
