James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar are two of the biggest names in cricket, representing their respective nations — England and India. In recognition of their immense contributions to the game, the decision was made to rename the Pataudi Trophy as the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy for the Test series between England and India. To unveil the new trophy ahead of the five-match Test series beginning tomorrow, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) invited the two legends to the occasion.

A photo from the event has gone viral on social media, showing both icons posing with the newly renamed trophy. A key highlight is the image of Tendulkar and Anderson etched onto the trophy, accompanied by their individual signatures — a tribute to their enduring legacies.

The legacy of the Pataudi family, previously honoured through the Pataudi Trophy, will live on through the newly introduced Pataudi Medal, as agreed upon by the BCCI and ECB. The Pataudi Medal will be awarded to the winning captain of the five-Test series.

Anderson and Tendulkar React to the Honour

“It’s a proud moment for me and my family to have this iconic series named after Sachin and myself. The rivalry between our two nations has always been something special — full of history, intensity, and unforgettable moments,” said Anderson in an official statement.

“For me, Test cricket embodies life — you give your best, and if things go wrong, it gives you another day to regroup, reflect, unlearn, and bounce back. And now, as I share this recognition with my on-field challenger and off-field gentleman, James, I hope the world continues to celebrate the essence of Test cricket — allowing it to traverse boundaries yet untrodden,” said Tendulkar during the unveiling ceremony.
