Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has confirmed that he will not be the coach of Northern Superchargers in The Hundred next season. He explained that he felt undervalued by the franchise’s new owners. Flintoff guided the Superchargers to a fourth-place finish in 2024 and into the Eliminator this year. He said he had turned down a new offer from the Sun Group, the team’s new owners.

Speaking on the Beard Before Wicket podcast, Flintoff explained his decision, saying, “I genuinely don’t do it for the money, although it’s nice, but I’m worth more than just over a quarter of the [salary of] other head coaches.” The 47-year-old added that he did not feel encouraged by the new management’s approach. “I wasn’t encouraged they wanted me anyway, but then also you want to feel valued,” said Flintoff. “So I said that it’s not going to work for me, and they weren’t going to move on it.”

The Sun Group, the owners of Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL and Sunrisers Eastern Cape in South Africa’s SA20, said in a statement that they had offered Flintoff a raise but respected his choice. “We had discussions with Freddie and extended an offer, which was an increase over his current salary at Northern Superchargers,” said a spokesperson for the new ownership. “While we would have loved to have him on board, we respect his decision.”

Flintoff, who is also the head coach of the England Lions, saidhe was disappointed to leave Superchargers after rebuildingthem from a struggling side to playoff contenders. “I’m not going to do it, which is sad,” he said. “The past two years, I felt we were building somewhere really nice, and I’d have loved to have seen it through.”
