Jharkhand all-rounder Anukul Roy emphasised how much he had worked on his batting, which helped his team win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Thursday, December 18.
Anukul has always been a brilliant spinner for Jharkhand, but over time, especially in the last year, he has come of age as a batter as well. In Jharkhand’s successful run in the SMAT, the left-handed batsman scored 303 runs in 11 innings at an average of over 60, with a strike rate of 160. His most impressive outing with the bat came when his unbeaten 95 helped Jharkhand clinch an unlikely victory against Karnataka on a day when no other batsman from his team could even reach the 20-run mark.
Batting is an area he has worked hard on.
“I concentrated on my batting. I was bowling well, but this year I wanted to contribute with the bat as well,” he said in the post-match presentation ceremony. “The planning is the same, it just depends on the venue and the size of the boundary.”
With the ball, the left-arm spinner took 18 wickets, conceding just 7.34 runs per over, finishing as his team’s second-highest wicket-taker.
“Varying the pace is important in T20; otherwise, you can concede boundaries,” said Anukul.
On the team’s historic win, Anukul added: “It has been a very good journey. Everyone has worked hard – players and support staff alike.”
The 27-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder became only the second cricketer to score over 300 runs while taking more than 15 wickets in a single edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
