Australia all-rounder Cameron Green disappointed many with his first outing after becoming the most expensive overseas player in IPL history. On December 16, Kolkata Knight Riders spent a hefty amount of INR 25.20 crore to acquire him at the IPL 2026 auction. His early dismissal in the ongoing Ashes series has raised concerns over the expensive buy.
On Day 1 of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide, Green was dismissed for a duck by England fast bowler Jofra Archer. In the first two Tests against England, Green scored a total of 69 runs and picked up only two wickets.
At the IPL 2026 auction, there was an intense bidding battle between KKR and Chennai Super Kings. Chennai pushed the price up to INR 25 crore, but KKR eventually secured the player for a whopping INR 25.20 crore. The deal made Green the most expensive overseas buy in IPL auction history, breaking the previous record of INR 24.75 crore, which was also set by KKR for Mitchell Starc ahead of the 2024 season.
After the signing, KKR shared a video of Green on their social media pages, showing his excitement about joining the franchise.
“I’m so excited to be part of Kolkata for this year’s IPL, to get down to the Eden Gardens, get used to the atmosphere and hope it’s a great year for us. So, see you soon. Ami KKR,” Green said.
Green previously represented Mumbai Indians (2023) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2024). He has played 29 IPL matches so far, scoring 707 runs at an average of 41.58 and also picking up 16 wickets.
