Swashbuckling Australian batter Travis Head expressed his delight at contributing significantly with the bat in the ongoing 2025/26 Ashes series.
With 600 runs from nine innings, Head has been the standout batter of the series, with the next best tally being Joe Root’s 394.
“It’s nice to contribute the way I have in the series like this,” Head told reporters. “I am not normally the one doing the heavy lifting as such.”
In a series where runs have been hard to come by, Head has flourished as an opener, smashing three centuries.
This has been another home summer in which Head has outshone the likes of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. He is happy to take on the responsibility of doing the heavy lifting for his team with the bat.
“The likes of Marnus (Labuschagne) or Smudge (Steve Smith) have been the heavy lifters, the guys who have really driven the game. Davey (David Warner) in the past as well. I’ve been very lucky to bat around those guys. It’s nice that I’ve been able to put my hand up and help them out on the other side. But yeah, I wouldn’t have come into the series thinking I’d have a series like this,” he added.
Head scored a superb 163 against England in the ongoing fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), putting Australia in a commanding position in the first innings.
