Ross Taylor, the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) winner, expressed his belief that Ravichandran Ashwin would have been a formidable option against Australia’s left-handed batters in the WTC final. Taylor also said that he understood the reasoning behind including four seamers, considering the prevailing conditions at The Oval.
“Australia have 5 lefties.. he could have been a handful against them but I understand the decision that Rohit (Sharma) and Rahul (Dravid) took with grass and weather around,” Taylor said in an exclusive chat with RevSportz.
The rise in popularity of T20 cricket has made it the most favoured format among cricket fans. However, with the introduction of championship points for Test cricket, it has has helped to revive the longest format to some extent as teams are now compelled to prioritize achieving results rather than settling for draws.
“I think you know this is where I think the World Test Championship (WTC) becomes very important, there’s a lot of talk about relevancy and having a world cup and those test championship points make Test cricket relevant,” he emphasized.
