Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised Jordan Hermann for his brilliant knock in South Africa A’s five-wicket win over India A in the second unofficial Test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru. The visitors chased down the massive target of 417 runs in 98 overs with five wickets to spare and the two-match series ended 1-1.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ashwin wrote: “South Africa ‘A’ led by Jordan Hermann are throwing in some punches on day 4 of the Unofficial Test chasing 417. He is batting on 90 against Siraj, Prasidh, Kuldeep and Akash Deep. Whatever happens today, Jordan Herman has made rapid strides in the South African cricket circles. He plays for the SR Eastern Cape in the SA 20.”
Chasing a daunting 417, Hermann gave South Africa A the perfect start alongside Lesego Senokwane. The duo added 156 runs for the opening wicket, providing solidity and laying the foundation for a successful chase.
The 23-year-old looked composed throughout his innings, showing maturity well beyond his age. He rotated the strike smartly and punished every loose delivery. Against a strong Indian attack featuring Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, and Akash Deep, Hermann batted with confidence and authority.
He was unlucky to miss out on a century, dismissed for 91 off 123 balls, caught and bowled by Prasidh Krishna. His knock included 13 fours and a six, and his effort proved crucial in South Africa A’s eventual victory.
