
Afghanistan has announced their squad for the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025, where Rashid Khan will be the captain. The tournament will be played in the UAE from September 9 to 28, with Afghanistan playing their first match against Hong Kong on the opening day.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board announced the squad through a social media post, confirming that there will be a mix of experienced players and young talents. They also mentioned that before the Asia Cup, Afghanistan will play a T20I tri-series against hosts UAE and Pakistan in Sharjah, which will give the team vital match practice before the tournament.
Rashid, who was part of the ICC T20I Men’s Team of the Year 2024, will lead a strong spin unit that includes Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Sharafuddin Ashraf, veteran Mohammad Nabi, and young Allah Ghazanfar, who has returned after injury. Naveen-ul-Haq, along with FazalhaqFarooqi and Farid Malik, will strengthen the pace attack.
In the batting lineup, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran are expected to provide a strong start, while Karim Janat, Gulbadin Naib, and Mohammad Nabi will add experience in the middle order. The squad also features young talents like Sediqullah Atal and Azmatullah Omarzai, who impressed in domestic competitions. Gurbaz and Mohammad Ishaq will take care of wicketkeeping duties.
