Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by eight runs in a close encounter in a Group B match of Asia Cup 2025. This win takes Bangladesh to the second place in the table with four points, behind Sri Lanka, who are at the top with a better net run rate.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat. Openers Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan gave them a brilliant start by adding 63 runs in 40 balls.

After Saif’s departure, Tanzid continued his good showing and completed his 50 in just 25 balls. Spinners are Afghanistan’s strength and Tanzid played them confidently, punishing every loose delivery. His 31-ball 52 contained four boundaries and three sixes. The strike rate was 167.74.

Captain Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad took two wickets each for Afghanistan. Bangladesh scored 154/5 in their 20 overs.

Afghanistan lost their opener Sediqullah Atal on the first ball of their innings. Bangladesh always kept bowling in the right line and lengths and Afghanistan failed to stitch any partnership above 40 runs.

Nasum Ahmed bowled superbly, providing two breakthroughs inside the power play. He finished with figures of 2/11 in his four overs. There was a maiden over in those. Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets while Rishad Hossain and Taskin Ahmed claimed two each. Nasum was adjudged the Player of the Match.
