Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by six wickets with 32 balls to spare in the Group B match of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, thanks to Kamil Mishara, who was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten 46.
Chasing a target of 140, Sri Lanka had a poor start, losing Kusal Mendis in the second over. Mishara then joined Pathum Nissanka at the crease, and the pair stitched together a partnership of 95 runs off just 52 balls, laying the foundation for Sri Lanka’s victory. After scoring 50 off 34 balls, Nissanka was dismissed in the 11th over. His innings included six fours and a six.
Mishara, however, remained unbeaten to guide his team to victory. The left-handed batter faced 32 balls for his 46, scoring at a strike rate of 143.75. For Bangladesh, Mahedi Hasan returned figures of 2 for 29 in his four overs, with an economy rate of 7.20.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bangladesh lost both openers without a run on the board. Captain Litton Das fought a lone battle for his 28 before Shamim Hossain and Jaker Ali took over. The pair added 86 runs off 61 balls to take Bangladesh to 139 for 5 in their 20 overs. Shamim scored an unbeaten 42, while Jaker remained not out on 41. For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga took 2 for 25 in his four overs, with an economy rate of 6.20.
This win takes Sri Lanka to second place in the Group B points table.
