Sri Lanka have announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. They are placed in Group B alongside Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong. Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been included in the squad, as he is expected to regain fitness in time for the tournament.

Hasaranga picked up a hamstring injury during the recent home T20I series against Bangladesh, which Sri Lanka lost 1-2. Due to the injury, he is set to miss the entire Zimbabwe tour, where Sri Lanka will play a two-match ODI series from August 29 to 31, followed by a three-match T20I series in Harare from September 3 to 7.

This Zimbabwe series will also serve as an important platform for the Lankans to prepare for the Asia Cup. In Hasaranga’s absence, much will depend on spinners Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana, who are expected to play key roles in the side’s success.

Apart from his captaincy, Charith Asalanka will need to lead from the front with the bat, alongside top-order batters like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, and Kusal Perera. In the middle and lower order, Dasun Shanaka and Kamindu Mendis will provide depth and finishing ability.

Sri Lanka will begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on September 13 against Bangladesh. They will then face Hong Kong on September 15 before taking on Afghanistan on September 18.

Sri Lanka T20I squad: Charith Asalanka (c), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Nuwanidu Fernando, Kamindu Mendis, Kamil Mishara, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Binura Fernando, Nuwan Thushara, Matheesha Pathirana.
