The Services versus Assam 2025 Ranji Trophy game played in Tinsukia turned out to be the shortest-recorded match in the tournament’s history, in terms of balls bowled. A total of only 540 deliveries were played in the whole match, with Assam winning by eight wickets.

Previously, in the game played between Delhi and Railways in 1961-62, only 547 balls were needed to produce a result.

The shortest game in terms of time turns out to be the first match of the tournament that was played between Madras and Mysore on November 4, 1934. It finished on the very first day, with just 100.5 overs bowled.

Assam won the toss and elected to bat. Services’ bowlers were lethal as Arjun Sharma took five wickets for 46 runs. Pradyun Saikia (52) and Riyan Parag (36) were the only notable scorers and seven batters went to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. Assam were bundled out for 103 in just 17.2 overs.

Services, in reply, scored 108 in 29.2 overs, with Irfan Khan scoring an unbeaten 51. Parag took a fifer while Rahul Singh bagged four wickets.

In the second innings, Assam could only manage 75 runs and were all out in 29.3 overs. None of the batters could even reach the 30-run mark. Sumit Ghadigaonkar was the highest scorer with 25 while Parag scored 12. Arjun took a four-fer, taking his tally to nine wickets in the match.

Services’ batters played the fourth innings sensibly and they bagged the match.
