AUS-U19 vs IND-U19: Vaibhav Suryavanshi Breaks Ayush Mhatre’s Record with a Sensational Hundred

India’s U19 opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi set a new record in the Youth Test series in Australia on Wednesday, October 1. At Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane, the left-hander smashed a brilliant century and broke captain Ayush Mhatre’s record to become India’s top six-hitter in Youth Test cricket. His powerful innings has given India U19 a strong lead in the first match of the two-Test series against Australia.

Vaibhav began the day batting alongside Mhatre, needing only three more sixes to break his record. He reached the three-figure mark quickly, scoring 113 runs from just 86 balls. His innings so far includes nine boundaries and eight sixes, taking his total Youth Test sixes to 15 – the most by any Indian. Mhatre held the previous record with nine sixes, but during this match he lost his wicket early, scoring just 21 runs from 15 balls, and couldn’t add to his tally.

India U19 started strongly with disciplined bowling on day one, bowling out Australia U19 for 243 runs. Steven Hogan was the top scorer for the hosts, making 92 runs from 246 balls. For India, Deepesh Devendran took a brilliant five-wicket haul, conceding 45 runs in 16.2 overs with an economy rate of 2.80, while Kishan Kumar added three crucial wickets, conceding only 48 runs in 16 overs.

For India, besides Vaibhav, Vedant Trivedi also scored a fine century, making 116 runs from 160 balls. For Australia, Hayden Schiller took two wickets, while captain Will Malajczuk and Thomas Paddington claimed one each.
