India opener Abhishek Sharma praised the Indian women’s team for their incredible victory over Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final on October 30.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side defeated the defending champions, Australia, by five wickets to book a place in the final against South Africa.

Speaking after the second T20I match against Australia in Melbourne, Abhishek shared how proud he felt watching the women’s team make history.

“I don’t think India have ever won a game like that in the history of women’s cricket,” he said at the post-match conference. “The maturity and teamwork they showed made us really proud. We were all watching. The way Jemimah, Harman, Smriti and everyone played, it didn’t feel as though there was any pressure on them. It’s motivating to watch. They deserve the trophy for the way they played in the semi-final, and I’m sure they’ll do well.”

India’s women’s team have impressed everyone with their fearless approach throughout the tournament. In the semi-final, the partnership between captain Harmanpreet Kaur (89) and Jemimah Rodrigues (127*) helped India reach the World Cup final for the third time.

Meanwhile, Abhishek himself played a brilliant knock in the second T20I against Australia. The left-handed batter scored 68 runs off 37 balls, including eight boundaries and two sixes, at a strike rate of 183.78. However, his effort went in vain as India lost the match by four wickets.

Both the Indian men’s and women’s teams will play their next matches on November 2. The men’s team will play their third ODI against Australia in Hobart, while the women’s team will face South Africa in the final at Navi Mumbai.
