Swashbuckling opener Abhishek Sharma is just 64 runs away from surpassing Virat Kohli to become the fastest Indian men’s cricketer to reach 1,000 runs in T20 international cricket. The left-hander has a great opportunity to achieve this milestone in the third T20I of the ongoing five-match series against Australia, which will be played at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday, 2 November.

Kohli reached the 1,000-run mark in 27 innings across 29 matches. Abhishek, who is currently the world’s No. 1 T20I batter, has played 26 T20Is and scored 936 runs in 25 innings at an average of 37.44, including two centuries and six half-centuries at a blistering strike rate of 193.38. His highest score in this format is 135.

Given the form Abhishek is in, 64 runs does not seem too big a task for him. In the second match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the 25-year-old was the lone warrior for India, scoring 68 off 37 balls. However, his innings went in vain as the Men in Blue lost the game.

Already 1–0 down in the series, the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team will be desperate to make a comeback in the third match.
