India’s young batting star Abhishek Sharma has achieved another major milestone, becoming the fastest player to score 1,000 runs in T20 internationals in terms of balls faced. The left-handed opener reached the landmark during the fifth T20I against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane on November 8.
Abhishek reached 1,000 T20I runs in just 528 balls, breaking the previous record held by his captain Suryakumar Yadav, who took 573 deliveries. The top five list also includes Phil Salt (599), Glenn Maxwell (604), and Andre Russell and Finn Allen (609 each). His explosive stroke play and consistency have made him one of the most dangerous openers in the T20 format.
In terms of innings, the 23-year-old became the second-fastest Indian to reach the 1,000-run mark, achieving it in 28 innings. Virat Kohli remains the quickest, doing so in 27 innings. KL Rahul (29), Suryakumar Yadav (31), and Rohit Sharma (40) complete the elite list.
Abhishek sits on top of the run charts in the five-match series against Australia with 163 runs. Earlier, he was India’s highest scorer in the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, amassing 314 runs in seven innings, and is now ranked No. 1 in the ICC T20I batting rankings with 925 points.
In the fifth and final T20I, Abhishek scored an unbeaten 23 off 13 balls before rain forced the match to be abandoned. He smashed a four and a six at a strike rate of 176.92, while his opening partner Shubman Gill scored 29 off 16 balls*, hitting six boundaries at 181.25. Together, they powered India to 52/0 in just 4.5 overs before play was stopped.
Even though the fifth T20I was called off, Abhishek’s strong performance earned him the player of the series award as India clinched the series by 2-1.
