India’s superstar Virat Kohli added another feather to his illustrious career. He became the second highest run-getter in the history of One-Day International (ODI) cricket. The Delhi-born batter achieved the feat during his knock of 74 off 81 balls in the last match of the three-match series against Australia, at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Chasing a target of 237, India lost their captain Shubman Gill early. Then Kohli joined Rohit Sharma in the middle and stitched an unbeaten 168-run partnership that sealed the match for India. While Rohit scored a brilliant century, Kohli anchored the innings to guide India to victory. His tally of 74 runs included seven fours.
The 36-year-old now has 14255 runs in 305 matches, surpassing Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara who amassed 14234 runs in 404 matches. India’s legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar leads the chart with a monumental 18426 runs in 463 matches.
Along with this, Kohli also has 4188 runs in 125 T20Is that takes his tally in white-ball cricket to 18443 runs in 430 matches, going past Tendulkar’s 18436 runs.
