Former World Cup-winning captain Michael Clarke believes that Virat Kohli will finish the three-match ODI series against Australia as the highest run-scorer.

Speaking on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Clarke said both Kohli and Rohit Sharma could be the leading run-getter of the series, but he feels batting at No. 3 is a little easier in Australia, giving Kohli the advantage.

“(Leading run-scorer) Well, in my opinion, it’s one of Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli,” he said. “I’ve just got this feeling that, if it is their last trip to Australia, they’ll want to leave on a high. I think batting at number three or four is probably a little bit easier in Australia than opening, because Rohit will open, so I’m going to go with Virat Kohli as the leading run-scorer.”

Both Kohli and Rohit retired from T20Is after leading India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup last year. They announced their retirement from Test cricket earlier this year during the IPL. These two veterans have not played international cricket for quite some time; they were last seen representing India in the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.

Rohit has played 30 ODIs in Australia, scoring 1,328 runs at an average of 53.12, while Kohli has scored 1,327 runs in 29 ODIs at an average of 51.03. The stage is set for both of them to make a big impact, as this could be their final tour of Australia.

The first ODI will be played in Perth on Sunday, 19 October, and fans are eager to see them in action.
