Seam-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the first three T20Is of the five-match series against Australia due to neck spasms, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed ahead of the first T20I in Canberra.
“Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the first three T20Is. The all-rounder, who was recovering from a left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide, complained of neck spasms, which have affected his recovery and mobility. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,” the BCCI stated in a media release.
Earlier, Reddy sustained a left quadriceps injury during the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval. He was subsequently benched for the third and final match of the series on Saturday at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
With Hardik Pandya unavailable for the Australia tour due to injury, the 22-year-old Reddy was given an opportunity but failed to make a significant impact in the two games he played for India in the ODI series. In his debut series, the right-handed batter scored only 27 runs in two innings and went wicketless in 5.1 overs.
According to the BCCI’s media release, the medical team will continue to monitor Reddy’s progress. His availability for the last two T20Is remains under scrutiny.
