Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh believes that India’s star batter Virat Kohli is a ‘guru’ when it comes to fitness, ahead of India’s tour of Australia, which begins on October 19.
Speaking to the broadcaster, the spin-bowling legend said that Kohli sets the benchmark for others to follow.
“Please don’t ask any questions about Virat’s fitness. When it comes to fitness, he’s a guru,” Harbhajan told JioHotstar. “Everyone follows what he does. There’s absolutely no concern about Virat Kohli’s fitness; he’s fit – probably fitter than many of those currently playing alongside him. In today’s international cricket, he’s arguably the fittest player out there. Now, I’m just looking forward to seeing Virat back in action.”
Kohli has been out of competitive cricket for a considerable period. The former India captain was last seen playing in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, he is part of the ODI squad for the upcoming tour of Australia. The talismanic batter has a phenomenal record Down Under. In 29 ODI matches, Kohli has scored 1,327 runs at an average of 51.03, including five centuries and six fifties.
Amidst rumours of retirement, Harbhajan believes that Kohli still has more to offer.
“I genuinely feel he still has four to five years left in him – not just to play, but to dominate – because that’s the kind of batter he is,” he said. “He’s now heading to Australia, his favourite place to bat, and I’m sure he’ll once again show his mettle there. We’ve seen him score tons of runs in those conditions before, and I believe he’ll do it again. The same goes for Rohit. I’m looking forward to both these legends scoring heavily for India and helping the team win matches.”
