Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe has been added to the squad for the first ODI in Perth against India as a replacement for Josh Inglis, who is yet to recover from a calf injury. Adam Zampa will also miss the series opener due to family reasons. Cricket Australia confirmed the development on Tuesday, 14 October.

With Inglis and Alex Carey unavailable, Philippe is set to play his first one-day international since Australia’s tour of the West Indies in 2021. In the three ODIs he has played so far, Philippe has scored just 65 runs, with a top score of 39.

The 28-year-old has been in good form with the bat of late. He recently scored a century in a red-ball match against India A in Lucknow.

A Cricket Australia representative stated that Inglis is eyeing a comeback in the third ODI in Sydney, on 25 October. The Western Australian has been out of action since September due to a right calf injury sustained during a training session with Western Australia.

Meanwhile, Matthew Kuhnemann has been recalled to the ODI set-up for the first time since 2022, with Zampa’s unavailability opening the door for his return. The left-arm spinner is likely to feature in the Perth ODI, as he is the only specialist spinner in the squad, with Matthew Short and Cooper Connolly the only other spin-bowling options available.

Kuhnemann has been part of Australia’s white-ball squads since the Caribbean tour in July but has featured only once.

After the first ODI, both Philippe and Kuhnemann will leave the squad. Carey and Zampa will rejoin the team ahead of the second ODI in Adelaide, scheduled to be played on 23 October.
