South Africa all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been handed one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Australia, played in Darwin on Tuesday. The penalty was imposed following his send-off to Australian batter Ben Dwarshuis. There was no need for an official hearing, as Bosch accepted the charge proposed by the ICC Match Officials. This was Bosch’s first offence within a 24-month period.

The incident occurred in the 17th over of Australia’s chase when Bosch bowled Dwarshuis. As the batter walked back, Bosch pointed towards the dugout — an act considered to be a provocative form of send-off. Match officials found this to be a breach of Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel, which refers to:

“Using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an international match.”

Bosch made a significant impact with the ball in the match, claiming 3 wickets for just 20 runs in his three overs. His performance, alongside Kwena Maphaka’s three-wicket haul, helped South Africa bowl out Australia for 165 and seal a 53-run victory, levelling the three-match series at 1–1.

South Africa had earlier struggled with the bat in the first T20I, but Dewald Brevis turned the momentum with a scintillating unbeaten 125 off just 56 balls, powering the team to 218 for 7 — a total that gave the bowlers a strong platform to defend.

The third and final T20I will take place in Cairns on Saturday, 16 August.
