The intensity in world cricket seems to be rising by the day. After the dramatic Day 3 between India and England at Lord’s, the opening day of the third Test between Australia and West Indies in Kingston saw its share of fiery moments—courtesy of West Indies seamer Jayden Seales.

Things escalated when Shamar Joseph dismissed Steve Smith in the 56th over of Australia’s first innings. As Smith was walking back to the pavilion, Seales entered the frame and celebrated in his path, seemingly mocking him. The umpires were quick to intervene and dragged Seales away from the scene, issuing him a warning.

Seales wasn’t finished, though. After taking Mitchell Starc’s wicket, he ducked theatrically, then shouted and pointed toward the dressing room, appearing to direct Starc off the field. Starc, however, remained calm and composed, responding with a quiet smile.

Despite what looked like clear send-off behaviour, Seales later denied any such intentions.

“No send-off, that was pointed directly towards Alzarri (Joseph). We had a conversation before the delivery. No send-offs,” he explained.

He also said he wants to stay within the rules of the game moving forward.

“I’m not planning to get any fines or push the limits with the umpires anymore, so definitely not crossing that line,” he added.

However, his actions did not go unnoticed. The ICC found Seales guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of its Code of Conduct, which relates to using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or provoke a dismissal. His send-off to Pat Cummins drew a 15% fine of his match fee.

Aside from the drama, the West Indies bowling unit impressed on the field. They dismissed Australia for 225, with Seales picking up 3 wickets for 59 runs, delivering a solid performance with the ball in the first innings.
