As per the annual update of the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings, Australia have retained its number one position. Australia’s rating increased from 113 to 118, maintaining a narrow lead over Pakistan (116 points) and India (115 points). Before the annual update, Australia was in the first position with 113 points, with India behind them in the decimal count. Pakistan was ranked third with 112 points, and they briefly went to the top of the charts after their victory in the fourth ODI against New Zealand this month.
The rest of the teams, apart from the top three, have a significant margin to catch up with the leaders. New Zealand displaced England from the fourth spot with 104 points. After the annual update, South Africa and Bangladesh maintained their sixth and seventh positions, respectively. Meanwhile, Afghanistan took a leap to eighth place, overtaking Sri Lanka (ninth) and West Indies (tenth).
The rankings are based on all the series played since May 2020, but the series completed after May 2022 carries 100% weightage, while the series before that carries only 50% weightage. It remains to be seen if Australia can continue their dominance and hold on to the top position in the coming months.
