A year without silverware, but not without substance. Chirag Shetty opens up on injuries, grief, mental resets and why finishing 2025 in the world’s top three still feels like progress – with Asian Games 2026, a home World Championships and the ultimate dream of LA 2028 firmly in focus. Boria: How do you look back at 2025? Chirag: To sum it up it wasn’t an ideal year. With us not winning a title, Satwik’s (Satwiksairaj Rankireddy ) father passing away tragically, me getting injured, having to stay away from the game for 2-3 months, not knowing when will the comeback…
Now that India’s men’s team have completed their international cricket assignments for 2025, it is time to take stock and look back. For head coach Gautam Gambhir, it has been a mixed year. Below-par performances in red-ball cricket, with the series loss to South Africa, have somewhat undone the success in England. In white-ball cricket, however, India under Gambhir have been stellar, and will go into the World Cup in February as favourites. Test Cricket Red-ball efforts at home have been poor. Failing to chase down 124 in Kolkata was a real downer. Yes, Shubman Gill’s presence could have—and…
Sport is all about creating legacy—stories that last for years and partnerships that help the ecosystem grow. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) and RevSportz coming together for the Tata Steel Trailblazers Conclave 4.0 is one such partnership. The conclave is arguably India’s biggest multi-sport congregation and facilitates meaningful dialogue among athletes, corporates, policymakers, and the media. And now, with TMPV adding heft and speed, the scale and scope will both get bigger and better. What was the idea behind Trailblazers, and where does the synergy lie? These are the questions that drive this partnership. Trailblazers was aimed at facilitating meaningful…
Let me start by giving my readers two contrasting pictures. The first is Indian hockey. With the state of Odisha firmly behind it, the men’s team has delivered medal-winning efforts at the last two Olympic Games. We have also recently seen a medal-winning performance in the Junior Men’s World Cup. While the women’s game is struggling, Hockey India is intent on putting corrective measures in place as soon as possible. Contrast this with football, and we know the reality. There are no takers for Indian football, and with the FSDL deal coming to an end on December 8, things are…
Areas Where RevSportz Could Have Done Better in 2025 – The Year in Review
I did a piece yesterday reviewing 2025 for RevSportz. Overall, it has been a really strong year for us. Having said that, one of our readers asked why not do a piece on what RevSportz couldn’t achieve in 2025 and the areas we need to focus on in 2026. It is an excellent suggestion. I keep telling people that sport has taught me how to lose, and every loss takes me closer to success. And RevSportz did have its share of disappointments in 2025. Not launching a second conclave For a while now, we have been working on trying to…
Every person looks at a new year as a fresh opportunity and a fresh challenge. We at RevSportz are no different. At the start of 2025, we had set ourselves goals to achieve. They were ambitious, but the idea was always to scale. When I look back at the year, I have to say that every target has been met and every box ticked. Team As a team, we have grown by over 30 percent in one calendar year. We are now a team of over 50 and perhaps one of the few sports media companies that have continued…
The Gautam Gambhir–Ajit Agarkar combine set out to do away with star culture in Indian cricket. The events of the last year point to the fact that they have stayed true to their mission. First, we witnessed a series of high-profile retirements, and not all were pleasant. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravi Ashwin—some of the greatest players to have played the game for India—called it a day in 2024–25. We have also seen the selectors make domestic cricket mandatory for all players. Rohit and Kohli, too, will be playing domestic cricket soon enough, and this is the result of…
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is hugely talented – indeed, one of the most gifted youngsters around. And yet, when it comes to temperament, there is much to be desired. What happened today should be a huge learning lesson for him. It was not needed – just not needed. When you have been dismissed for a false shot, all you need to do is walk off, even more so when your team is in trouble. It is not your day, and that’s how sport is and always will be. You need to take it in your stride and digest it. Sport, as Abhinav…
The Wisconsin-born Kenny Bednarek is a two-time Olympic silver medallist, having finished on the second step of the podium in the men’s 200m at both the Tokyo (2021) and Paris (2024) Games. In Kolkata as the International Event Ambassador for the Tata Steel World 25K, he spoke exclusively to Boria Majumdar, RevSportz’s editor-in-chief, about getting into his prime, the rivalry with Noah Lyles and his first impressions of the city. Boria: First impression about Kolkata? Bednarek: It’s nice – the culture, the people. I’m loving everything about it. Boria: How important is an event like this for a country like…
Shamik Chakrabarty asked Ajit Agarkar at the press conference whether Shubman Gill had been dropped due to form. It was a very simple and clear question. Agarkar answered it, but did so diplomatically. His response suggested that Gill had been left out because he did not fit the combination, with the team management and selectors preferring a wicketkeeper-batter at the top of the order. By doing so, Agarkar managed to avoid directly addressing the question of Gill’s form. Let’s be clear: had Gill scored a couple of hundreds between September and now, he would have retained his spot in the…
