Anyone who follows Kuldeep Yadav knows he is a football fan. In fact, an ardent fan who hardly misses a major football game. But that he was a fan of Mohun Bagan wasn’t known to me ahead of this interview. It was indeed a revelation as a Mohun Bagan fan myself. “Yes and I have gone and watched a number of Mohun Bagan games as well,” Kuldeep told me. “I did not tell anyone that I was coming, for then you get all the attention as a cricketer. I just wanted to go and enjoy as a football fan and…
Boria Majumdar I have so far stayed away from writing about this issue. But now, I think it’s time. Every passing day, this trend is becoming more and more prominent. People lifting interviews and passing them off as their own without giving credit. Ethics? Professionalism? Basic sense of professional integrity? We at RevSportz have time and again called some of these people out. While some have apologised, others have disappeared. Sometimes, we have let things pass because we are so used to it. Such acts weren’t right. We should have called such offenders out. And not let them be. It…
There has always been much talk about the renaming of the Pataudi Trophy. A number of former cricketers and public intellectuals have spoken against the idea and said it is a sign of disrespect to the Pataudi family. From what I have heard, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) certainly want the Pataudi name to be associated with the series, while also honouring James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar by renaming the trophy after them. “It is not true at all that the Pataudi legacy is being disrespected,” said a…
“Other bowlers can help Bumrah play in all the Test matches” – Bharat Arun ahead of India’s tour of England
Team India are gearing up for the upcoming five-match Test series in England. Under Shubman Gill’s leadership, a new era is set to begin. The last time they played a Test series in England, India were leading 2-1 in 2021 till a COVID-19 interruption. Along with head coach Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun as the bowling coach was an integral part of the set-up. Ahead of this tour, he had a chat with RevSportz’s editor-in-chief, Boria Majumdar, to discuss what India’s bowlers did well on that tour, Shubman Gill as captain, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and a lot more. Boria: Your…
Boria Majumdar We have now seen arrests in the Bengaluru stampede issue and among those arrested are the head of marketing for Diageo and senior people at DNA Networks. Apparently, a manhunt is on for RCB CEO Rajesh Menon as well. Add in the removal of multiple police officers and the political advisor to the Chief Minister as well. The search is also on for some KSCA officials. The new official line is that everything was done by RCB without proper permission. It just happened because some rogue cricket officials and marketing guys wanted it to happen, without law enforcement…
In depth interviews with Michael Clarke, R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Bharath Arun- RevSportz sets up India’s tour of England
The England tour is finally upon us. The Indian team is here in the UK, and KL Rahul has already scored a hundred in the A game to assure fans that the team will not be a pushover. Karun Nair too has looked good, and things aren’t looking bad for India. For us at RevSportz, it is a massive occasion. Months and months of planning, and now to the execution. In fact, we have planned things in meticulous detail. How to be different, how to bring coverage of a certain nature that will appeal to our viewers, in the process…
Boria Majumdar Adille Sumariwalla, Vice-president of the World Athletics, was India’s champion sprinter for many years, representing the country at the Moscow Olympics in 1980. Now, a new generation of sprinters is rewriting India’s athletics narrative and track-and-field events are no longer just about Neeraj Chopra. After a 24-medal haul at the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea, Sumariwalla spoke exclusively to Boria Majumdar, RevSportz editor-in-chief. Boria: 24 medals, coming second. Your first thoughts? Adille Sumariwalla: Thank you for having me on the show and the kind introduction. I think our athletes have done well. The way I had looked…
In matters of food, team RevSportz is like the majority of our countrymen. Even when we are far from Indian shores, we tend to crave the traditional Indian spices that spruce up our food. The experience was no different in Sydney. Soon after reaching Sydney for the New Year Test, we’d inevitably go to Masala Theory to munch on some curry bombs. Coming to Manchester, it would inevitably be Ziya Asian Grill, one of my personal favourites. One of my last visits to Ziya was on the fateful evening of that 2019 World Cup loss to New Zealand. After…
Boria Majumdar A lot of people reacted to my column from yesterday and asked what was the point of doing a celebration on this scale? Why should there be a victory parade in the first place? What’s the need? Why put lives in danger? Victory parades are a reality around the world. Every major win is celebrated with one. Never has the parade been an issue. Rather, the issue was the under-preparedness. The issue was the lack of coordination and the lack of effective administrative implementation. Even Mumbai hosted a parade last July after India’s T20 World Cup win. And…
It was meant to be a celebration. In reality, it turned out to be a tragedy. And yet, things will soon be alright and we will all move on. There is little value for human life in India, and none of the fans who lost their lives will move a mountain. This is the real tragedy. This is the core issue. That we don’t value human lives. As for our political class, a caveat is necessary here. I don’t belong to any particular political party, and that’s well known. So, no Congress or BJP or TMC here, please. The truth…
