India v Australia, third ODI, over 12.2 – Steven Smith caught KL Rahul bowled Hardik Pandya. At first glance, the aforementioned line just seems like a mere statistic from a scorecard. But there is a bit more significance attached to the dismissal. The India all-rounder had removed Travis Head in his previous over with a back of a length delivery. However, for Smith, he made a subtle change in his length as he slipped in a fuller length ball and dangled the carrot outside off. The Australia captain duly obliged by edging one to the ‘keeper. Hardik continued to…
In a major change made to playing conditions for IPL 2023, the captains of the respective sides will now nominate the 11 players and five substitutes after the toss, the official release confirmed. The change would give the chance for the respective franchises to select their best XI (including the impact player) on the basis of whether they are batting or bowling first, and reduce the importance of winning the toss. “Each captain shall nominate 11 players plus a maximum of 5 substitute fielders in writing to the IPL Match Referee after the toss,” the release noted. Incidentally, the MCC…
RevSportz Web desk: In what comes as a huge blow for Team India, Shreyas Iyer will need to undergo a surgery and is likely to miss out of action for almost five months. The injury may see Shreyas missing the IPL 2023 and World Test Championship final against Australia in June. The KKR captain is also doubtful for the 50 overs World Cup in India. Already Jasprit Bumrah is out of action since last September, Rishabh Pant is recovering from his horrific car accident. And now Shreyas Iyer will also be unavailable. Iyer has been advised of surgery by a…
G Rajaraman A visit to the BWF Badminton World Rankings lists can fill Indian hearts with pride. India has 12 men and women each in the top 100. Besides six men’s pairs and seven women’s doubles team find places in the top 100. And what’s more 10 Junior men and 15 Junior Women are perched in the top 100. It does sounds wonderful, isn’t it? All is well and hunky-dory, isn’t it? Yet, when you realise that only four Indians have featured in the finals of 21 BWF events this year, things do not look as rosy. Tanya Hemanth and…
— Boria Majumdar For long this was a demand. For long it was a grouse. Why ATK? Why ahead of Mohun Bagan? When they aren’t even involved with Sanjeev Goenka anymore why have ATK with Mohun Bagan? Ultimately fandom is the only sentiment that is a constant in sport. Why upset the sentiment? Why not change the name? Why not do it for them? And that’s what Sanjeev Goenka did last night. Dropping ATk is the best thing he could have done on the night of the ISL win. Mohun Bagan Super Giants has Mohun Bagan as the first two…
The CHAMPIONS have arrived!! MBSG players and management lands in Kolkata and receives a grand welcome from the fans!! Debasis Sen and Rahul Giri reports from Kolkata airport.
At the end of an eventful Indian Super League (ISL) season, dominated by a team that didn’t make the play-off final, we look back at some of the main talking points – the need for VAR, Sunil Chhetri’s slow fade and Simon Grayson’s remarkable rebuilding job. So, the ISL season ended with ATK Mohun Bagan – now to be known as Mohun Bagan Super Giants – edging out Bengaluru in a penalty shoot-out. The teams that finished third and fourth in the regular season played out a final in Goa that wasn’t always high on quality, but one…
By Bharath Ramaraj One ball into his innings, KL Rahul had given some evidence that he could negate the threat of the moving ball in the first ODI against Australia. Mitchell Starc, who was in the middle of an excellent spell, pitched the ball further up in an attempt to sneak through Rahul’s defence with swing. Unfortunately for Starc, he didn’t generate much swing on that particular offering but his extra burst of pace and the left-arm angle could have still troubled a batter who was facing his first ball. Instead, what transpired was Rahul loading up the back…
Atreyo Mukhopadhyay The international cricket calendar forbids breathing space. Merely three days after a Test series, India and Australia are going to cross swords again, in the three-match ODI series from Friday. It’s a crucial engagement too, considering that this is a platform for both teams to check resources before the 50-over World Cup to be played in India later this year. It’s a different Australian squad where ODI specialists have replaced Test players. Back in the mix are Glenn Maxwell, Mitch Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa and others. Back home are the likes of Usman Khawaja and the spin…
Boria Majumdar March 16, 2012- Sher-e-Bangla Sadium, Mirpur: Sachin Tendulkar had just scored his hundredth 100 and only just finished the post-match media interaction. There was chaos all around, with everyone from the media, ground security, production crew and Bangladeshi administrators jostling to speak to the man. I knew it would be impossible to speak to him in that frenzy. Shortly after 11 PM, there were still thousands waiting on the road to catch a glimpse of the players leaving for the hotel. The Indian team was not able to leave the stadium for another hour or so and I…
