Former West Indies skipper Clive Lloyd penned a heartfelt tribute to Bernard Julien after the all-rounder passed away at the age of 75 in Valsayn, northern Trinidad. “He always gave you over 100 per cent. He never shirked his duties, and I could always rely on him with both bat and ball. He gave his all every time. What a fine cricketer,” Lloyd was quoted as saying by the Trinidad & Tobago Guardian. In his short international career, Julien played 24 Tests and 12 ODIs. He made 866 runs and took 50 wickets in the longer format. In ODIs, he…
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed Julian Wood as batting coach and Rene Ferdinands as spin-bowling coach for the men’s national team, replacing Thilina Kandamby and Piyal Wijetunge, respectively. Wood, widely recognised for revolutionising England’s white-ball strategy with his power-hitting techniques, was previously contracted with Bangladesh on a short-term basis, a contract the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) opted not to renew after it ended in September. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has now signed him on a one-year deal. Ferdinands, meanwhile, has been appointed for a two-year term, during which he is expected to oversee spin bowling training, match preparation, performance…
Ireland is set to tour Bangladesh for a two-match Test series and a three-match T20I series, scheduled to take place in November–December 2025. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) released the itinerary on Saturday. According to the schedule, Ireland will arrive in Bangladesh on 6 November. The visitors will begin their campaign with the first Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, starting on 11 November. The second Test is scheduled to be played from 19–23 November at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. This series will mark the first-ever full Test series between Bangladesh and Ireland. The two…
After losing the first Test to India by an innings and 140 runs, the West Indies highlighted the importance of posting a big score in the first innings of a Test match. At Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the West Indies won the toss and, as visiting teams often do, Chase opted to bat first. However, the batting line-up couldn’t really justify the decision, as the West Indies were bundled out for just 162 in their first innings. “Obviously, when you win the toss and bat and get bowled out for 162, it’s going to be tough to come back from…
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ha handed a maiden ODI call-up to Saif Hassan for the three-match series against Afghanistan, starting on October 8. Litton Das has been left out of the 16-member squad. The wicketkeeper-batter continues to recover from a side strain sustained during the Asia Cup. Saif’s selection comes on the back of a string of strong performances in this year’s Asia Cup. Batting at the top of the order, the right-handed batter amassed 178 runs across four innings at an average of 44.50, including two fifties. Parvez Hossain Emon has been left out, as Bangladesh have preferred…
IND vs WI: “Nothing much for the bowlers” – Rampaul Blames Conditions for Bowling Struggles
West Indies bowling coach Ravi Rampaul blamed the lack of assistance from the pitch for the lackluster show with the ball on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the 128 overs bowled in the Test so far, West Indies have conceded 448 runs while taking five wickets. On the same pitch, the Indian bowlers bundled out the visitors for 162 on the opening day. West Indies’ bowlers have bowled well in patches but haven’t done so consistently enough. Conditions didn’t offer much to the bowlers, reckons Rampaul. “It was…
Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers has questioned Team India’s decision of not receiving the Asia Cup winners’ medals and trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi after winning the Asia Cup final against Pakistan in Dubai on 28 September. In a rare occurrence, the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team celebrated their Asia Cup victory without the trophy. During the delayed presentation ceremony, Naqvi stood on the dais, but the Indian team did not appear to collect the trophy, prompting the ACC President to take it away. The Indian team had informed the tournament authorities that they won’t…
West Indies vice-captain Jomel Warrican defended his team’s decision to bat first on a seam-friendly surface in the first Test against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The visiting side could only manage 162. Seam-bowling all-rounder Justin Greaves top-scored with 32. There was assistance for the pacers, and Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah exploited the conditions, sharing seven wickets between them. “Obviously, we knew the wicket would turn a lot here, so we didn’t want to bat last on this surface. So, once we won the toss, as a team we decided to bat,” Warrican said at the…
Afghanistan T20I captain Rashid Khan is focusing on finding the right balance ahead of next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Rashid and co. had a forgettable run in the 2025 Asia Cup. Coming into the tournament with a lot of hope and expectations, Afghanistan couldn’t get past the group stage. Of the three matches played, they lost two — against Bangladesh and Pakistan. While things didn’t go as planned in the Asia Cup, Afghanistan’s focus is now on performing well in next year’s World Cup. “I think every game is…
Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed on Wednesday (October 1) that Afghanistan will tour Zimbabwe for a one-off Test and three T20Is. It was initially planned as an all-format series. However, according to the itinerary shared by the board, the tour will now only feature a one-off Test and three T20Is. The tour is scheduled to begin later this month, with the Test starting on October 20, followed by the T20Is on October 29, October 31, and November 2. Test cricket will return to Harare for the first time in four years. The last nine Tests involving Zimbabwe were played in Bulawayo. This…
