The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the new captain of the national ODI side for the next 12 months. His first assignment as full time captain will be the upcoming three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka, starting on 2 July. Mehidy replaces Najmul Hossain Shanto, who led the side in 13 ODIs, winning only four. Mehidy has previously captained the team in four matches in Shanto’s absence and now takes over the role full-time. Nazmul Abedeen, Chairman of the BCB’s Cricket Operations Committee, highlighted Mehidy’s all-round consistency and leadership qualities as reasons behind the decision.…
In a major blow for the MI New York, all-rounders Rashid Khan and Azmatullah Omarzai are all set to miss the entirety of the 2025 edition of Major League Cricket (MLC). According to ESPN Cricinfo, Rashid has withdrawn from the league, which begins this Friday, in order to take a break from cricket. The decision follows a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign with Gujarat Titans, who were knocked out in the Eliminator by Mumbai Indians. The leg-spinner endured his least effective IPL season to date, managing just nine wickets at a steep economy rate of 9.34 and an average of 57.11.…
India batter Tilak Varma is set to join Hampshire County Cricket Club for a short spell, having been approached for a four-match engagement in the County Championship. Although the contract is yet to be formally signed, both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) have granted him a No Objection Certificate (NOC), clearing the way for his participation. In an official statement, the HCA said, “The Hyderabad Cricket Association is pleased to announce that international cricketer Mr. N Thakur Tilak Varma has been approached by Hampshire County to play in the County…
IND vs ENG: ‘He’s a very good player, but…’ Ganguly Lauds Sudharsan but Warns of Red-Ball Challenge in England
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has heaped praise on the in-form Sai Sudharsan but cautioned that red-ball cricket in England will be a vastly different challenge compared to the IPL and white-ball formats. Following a dream run in IPL 2025, where he emerged as the tournament’s highest run-scorer, and a strong domestic season with Tamil Nadu, Sudharsan has earned his maiden Test call-up for India’s upcoming five-match series against England. His recent form, combined with prior experience playing county cricket for Surrey, places him as a strong contender to receive his Test cap. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has…
IND vs ENG: ‘You’ve got to fight here’ – Sourav Ganguly’s Piece of Advice for Shubman Gill Ahead of the Test Series
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has offered valuable advice to Shubman Gill on how to approach his batting in the upcoming five-match Test series between India and England, which begins on 20 June in Leeds. Batting in England is expected to be challenging, with conditions likely to favour seam and swing bowling. For Gill, who has struggled overseas—particularly in England—the challenge is even greater. He has scored just 88 runs in Tests on English soil at a modest average of 14.66. Ganguly, who famously scored a century on debut at Lord’s and enjoyed a successful stint in England, has urged…
WI vs AUS: Shai Hope Returns, Roach left out as West Indies Name Squad for the Test Series
White-ball captain Shai Hope makes his return to the red-ball format, alongside Keacy Carty, as Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming home Test series against Australia. Guyanese batter Kevlon Anderson and white-ball opener Brandon King have received their maiden Test call-ups, while John Campbell returns to the fold following an impressive domestic season with the bat. Anderson Phillip also returns, having impressed with a five-wicket haul for West Indies A against South Africa A. Notably, wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva remains on the sidelines, and veteran pacer Kemar Roach has been omitted from the squad. These…
South Africa have announced their playing XI for the ICC Men’s World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia, set to begin tomorrow at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi returns to the side for the first time since August last year, having missed the entire home summer due to a groin injury. Temba Bavuma confirmed the line-up on the eve of the match. There was no place for seamer Dane Paterson, who bagged a six-wicket haul in his most recent Test outing at home against Pakistan on Boxing Day. The Proteas opted for the experience and extra…
India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been signed by Yorkshire County Cricket Club for the second half of the English summer. He is set to feature in five County Championship matches and the entire One-Day Cup campaign. This marks Gaikwad’s maiden stint in county cricket. He will link up with the Yorkshire squad ahead of their County Championship fixture against Surrey next month. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain is currently in England with the India A squad but has yet to feature in either of the two matches against the England Lions. The right-handed batter has been out of action…
England’s legendary fast bowler James Anderson is delighted by the prospect of the England–India Test series being renamed from the Pataudi Trophy to the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy. Over the past fortnight, several reports have suggested that the upcoming five-match Test series between England and India could be contested for a newly named Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have yet to officially confirm the development, Anderson has responded to the reports, calling the gesture a tremendous honour—especially to have his name associated with Indian icon Sachin Tendulkar.…
