The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to be played next month. Five BBL-bound players — Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali — have been left out. Interestingly, Shadab Khan, who was picked by the Hobart Hurricanes, will join the squad after a long hiatus.
Shadab completed his rehabilitation at the NCA in Lahore after undergoing surgery earlier this year. The spin-bowling all-rounder missed the Asia Cup but is now back in contention for the World Cup.
With most first-choice players busy in the BBL, Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Sahibzada Farhan and Usman Khan, who are currently playing in the BPL, have been summoned for the series. All these players will leave their respective BPL sides to link up with the squad in Sri Lanka, along with uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Khawaja Nafay.
Salman Ali Agha will continue to lead the side in the forthcoming series and is also set to captain the Men in Green at the World Cup.
The Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium (RDICS) in Dambulla will host the three T20Is on January 7, 9 and 11. This will be Pakistan’s final assignment before they begin their World Cup campaign in Colombo on February 7.
